I am applying HSMP -- can my husband find work?

Post by adlibris » Fri Jun 23, 2006 10:00 pm

Hi folks. I couldn't decide exactly what category this question went under, so I hope I'm in the right place.

My husband and I are both US citizens residing in the US. I am applying under HSMP with a UK job offer in-hand. I have NO IDEA what to do with my husband's visa????

If I am accepted as HSMP, I come over on a "visitor's" visa, right (VAF non-settlement)?

What visa should he apply for? It seems that he can only apply for a visitor's visa, (VAF - non-settlement as well) -- but how does he become legally able to work or go to school? Can we get that paperwork straightened out before we go over there?

We could make it on my salary alone, but we REALLY don't want to. I dropped my HSMP in the mail today with an expedited form.... HELP!?! (Sorry if it's a rudimentary question... I am just a little google-eyed after looking at all these websites week after week...)

This webpage .... click here ..... from the UKVisas website gives you the information you need. Both you and your husband (and any children?) need to complete a form VAF1 ... but it is an Employment visa that will be granted to you ... and a dependant's visa to your husband (and any children).

In fact the visa applications can be made online. Go to www.BritainUSA.com for more details. Fill in the details online, pay by card, and follow the instructions on screen telling you where to send the supporting evidence.

Assuming these visas granted both you and your husband will be allowed to work in the UK.

Your husband "go to school?". You mean he might want to study? Yes permitted on the dependant's visa.

John!!

I am going to have a GREAT weekend because of YOU! :D

That's what I thought... I even called yesterday and that's what they told me. However, I made myself dizzy and paranoid today quadruple-checking everything before dropping my HSMP in the mail.

WOO-HOO!!!!!!!

THANK YOU, JOHN!!

Notwithstanding the International Fees John, very expensive 7.5 to 16k pa, and worth adding...
