Certifying Documents

Hi

Being a sponsor for my Spouse's Visa, I am required to provide "Certified Copies" of

1. My Passport (British)
2. My Birth Certificate (British)

I understand that Certification can be done by Solicitors, I was just wondering whether, this can also be done via the Post Office. See Link below

This in fact would be cheaper than some solicitors would charge, and I was wondering whether anyone had any other advise for me.

Also:

Do I need to certify, Bank Statements, Payslips etc, or is it just applicable to copies of the Original?

You only need to certify copies if you are sending them rather than originals.

For the passport - in my experience the post office can do a certification - and this was accepted for my mother-in-law's 2 year visitor visa we just did.

However, the post office only certify one page - not all of them - and if you're going to use the entry/exit stamps as proof of travel - then you'll have to get them to do each individual page - which I think is £7.15 * (no of pages / 3)

I would also caveat it with the fact that my mother in law had had previous visas and both our passports were on file. So it may be that the post office wasn't acceptable - but it wasn't enough to cause a problem.

Thanks for the reply MPH80.

I was just looking at potential cost reducing ways of Certifying photocopies of my Passport and Birth Certificate so that I don't have to provide my originals to my Spouse when we begin putting the evidence down.

So I think I will use the Post Office Service, because it is cost effective, and it does exactly what I want it to do. Not to mention that when Passports are sent for renewals the old passports and the forms are checked by the Post Office prior to be sent, so I also think it should not pose a problem about getting the photocopies certified this way, unless someone else thinks otherwise.

The best thing I can do, is probably get in touch with the Home Office, unless someone wants to save me the hassle of doing so.?
