Unmarried Partner Visa to ILR

Post by sanjayrocks » Sat Apr 02, 2011 9:20 pm

Hi,

I just received my Unmarried Partner Visa for 2 years. Maybe this question is too earlier to ask but I would like to have a clear idea about the process to convert this Visa to ILR. If i know what sort of proof I need then I dont need to worry about at the time I apply for ILR.

According to the Current Immigration Laws, how should I prepare for the ILR. What documents should I start saving in a different file so at the end of the 2 year I can use as clear proof.

Also do i have to wait till the last month of visa to apply for ILR or when should I apply?

Thank you

Hi,

Guess there is lot to read. I will also take advice from my solicitor too.
My partner will be able to apply for British passport in 2 years time where it will clash with my visa to be changed in to ILR. Shall i ask her to wait till i apply for ILR and get it and then she can apply for British passport (which she said is more important)

If she applies for Citizenship, can i send my application as well. How should i tackle this situation.

Thanks

Your partner's eligibility to be naturalised as British citizen has nothing to do with your immigration status. Likewise, your eligibility to settlement has nothing to do with your partner's naturalisation application (or it subsequent approval).

Concentrate on your settlement ... which is (under current rules) 2 years far off. Without being granted settlement, you cannot apply for "British citizenship".

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. What happens if get married. Then do i have to start a fresh 2 year period before receiving the ILR. If I marry her do I have to again all the proof of documents of just to get COA(I heard that it will be abolished)

Thanks

no you will not have to start your probationary period again if you get married. Currently you would need a COA though but it is being abolished next month
