When to apply for extension

guys one more thing if you can help me...i know i am trying to be too proactive but i hope there is no harm in it:)

since my initial grant finishes on 02 june 2012 and my initial grant was for two years, so as per my understand i should get a three years extension..can you advice me that when i should apply for my first extesion so that i can get five years and then apply for ILR???
is there any time line that when you should apply for your extension???

for eg if I submit application of extension one day before my extensions is due would i still be elligible to work in UK as my case will b with home office or it should be filed well before it expires...

So, are you, currently, a Tier 1 (General) migrant or a Tier 4 (General) migrant?

thanks buddy for quick reply..i went through the link....so what i understand that its idea to file one month bfore your expiration...

since my visa runs out on 2 june 2012 if i file on exactly 2 may 2012 and if they give me the visa for next three years is there a possibility that the extension might be granted from the day before 02 june??? and i may fall short of five years time period...don't know if i could convey my query:(
