Returning back for Tier-1 extension

Hi folks,

I got my Tier-1 in Aug 2010 so is valid until Aug 2012. I got here in September, have been working since but my contract expires end of May. Am getting an opportunity for a 1-year contract work in US. Have a few few questions related to this.

1. Can I apply for extension at the end of this 1-year term from outside UK or would I require to be physically present in UK at the time of applying for extension?

2. Will the same rules that were valid at the time of my original tier 1 visa apply in this case as well?

3. Are there any residency requirements that have got to be fulfilled during this 2-year term? Don't know if there is a minimum length of stay in place.

4. Wrt to getting an extension, are there any other considerations that are also important?

Would be great if anyone can share similar experiences or any Seniors can advise.
