Can I get HSMP extension?

Post by tagston » Thu Jul 06, 2006 11:32 am

Dear Friends,

I would like to ask 2 questions:

a) How long before the HSMP expiry date can one apply for an extension?

b) I came to the UK with my wife (who is a dependant) about 9 months ago. I have about 20 years experience in IT, mostly management. I have been looking for a job, but so far have not been able to find one based on my expertise.

Facts:
- My wife did find a position and has been working for about 4 months.
- We have enough savings that we brought over, to last us at least 1.5 years. We are supporting ourselves fine.
- I am also thinking of starting my own business in IT.

- Will I have problems renewing our HSMP?

Thanks.

a) Officially - 5 weeks before it expires, unofficially - whenever you want, they will still consider the case. Obviuously the later you leave it the more proof you can submit.

b) If you can show you have been looking and applying for jobs then you should be able to get an extension. I seriously doubt you'd get 4 years though, maybe just 1 year for you to find a job / start a business.

Dear woodie g,
Do you know anyone in particular that has not been given 4 year extension coz of job not in hsmp field.
From my knowledge only 2 people have been denied extension so far, one had taken public fund and the other didn't work at all in UK.
If you know any such case let us know.

I dont have the link sorry.
If anyone goes to jobcentre and says he needs money and cannot support him in uk they normally have to give them the support.
Coz if that person becomes ill they can sue the govt. Although it is written on the passport no recourse to public funds, that thing will come up during that persons extension.

Where did you get this idea from?

U mean if the govt. doesn't give the person benefits which he/she is not entitled to and if that person falls sick, he/she can sue the govt?

I may have misunderstood the initial post, I took it that he had not worked at all. If you have been working then you can ignore my earlier post.

I agree with rckybhardwa. Human right is above all in the UK.
Even it is mentioned "no recourse to puclic is written in the LTR/passport" The case worker is still aware that people could still use human right argument to claim public fund. Furthermore, dependant of HMP holder is still counted within human right arguments.

That is why bank statement provide evidence that the person have enough funding to maintain himselves/dependant is a significant evidence. if the person is not working on HSMP level job.
