Need Serious advice!!!!

Post by AO9 » Fri Apr 29, 2011 10:41 pm

Hi All

I need a serious advice as I am confused about how to progress.

My wife currently lives in syria but she is NOT a syrian or has a syrian passport. She was due to take IELTS Test (the english lang test) on 5 May 2011, but THE ONLY partners/provider of UKBA in Syria 'The British Council' has returned her money and LEFT the country becuase of the siutation, therefore she cannot undertake the IELTS.

As you can imagine, I'm in a very confused state. I have everything i need for a successful application (settlement visa for my wife to UK) with the exception of the english language test.

I tried to call the FCO in syria but not luck and I am sure the VFS global office may close soon

So what shall I do and how shall i submit the application

She can take the test in any country she wishes to (and can travel to). She may apply for settlement visa from the country of her citizenship.

What is your wife's nationality and what passport does she hold?

Well my wife is a somali and she has a somali passport. They do not have a test centre in somali for sure and to make matter more difficult I am sure MOST surrounding countries to syria will not grant her a visa in to their country......

Yes, there isn't.

Tough luck then, if IELTS is the only exam available in Syria and your wife cannot travel to another country where she may be able to take an approved test. In such case, your wife will have to wait until IELTS examination providers resume operations in Syria.

You may find that if there continues to be no test available in Syria that the Home Office add this country to the exempt list.
