Can you set up your own business on a spouse visa?

My husband is on a spouse visa and has set up a business with a work mate, my husband is named as the company secretary, his work mate is the company director.

Are there any restrictions on someone here on a spouse visa setting up their own business? I have searched everywhere and I haven't managed to find any information. He is only wondering as their accountant questioned whether there were any restrictions on his visa. We had both previously thought this was ok.

Anybody have any ideas, or suggestions where I can search?

I don't think that there is any restriction.
If you find the letter from home office when his visa was issued, it should tell you that there is no restriction on employment and can set-up business as well.

He didn't get a letter from the HO when his visa was issued. His visa was issued at a British Embassy overseas. Thanks for the info anyway though.

No, the holder of a dependant visa can setup their own business.

Just to chip in, can a holder of a Student Visa, standard one, 20hr term time work allowed, become a director or company sec of a UK limited?
