Spouse Visa for Thai wife

Fisrt post on here

I am planning on going to Thailand to marry my Fiancee (hopefully in July / August) as soon as my Decree Absolute comes through.

We will then apply for a Spouse Visa as soon as possible after this so she can come and live with me in the UK.

I have emailed her and talked on Skype for about 8 months and met her once (When we got engaged) back in February.

I have lots of evidence (SMS, skype, photo's, emails, etc...) and will also get written statements of my friends and her friends / family that attended the engagement and party to state the relationship is geniune - which it very much is.

Question is - will this be enough evidence / time to prove to the UKBA that the relationship is Geniune and Subsisting ?

All other stuff is covered (Place to live, income, savings, etc, etc...)

Do you intend to visit her again before the wedding next year? If not, although the requirement is to have met in person, the ECO may query why you've only met on one occasion during a period of 18 months.

Sorry..mid-read. In which case if you're able to submit the contact evidence emails etc and have finance and accommodation covered, and you're both over the age of 21 you should meet the requirements.
Bear in mind your wife will have to pass the A1 English test before you submit the spouse visa application.

Yes - already on the case with the English test (Looking at the BULATS test which she will need to pass to A1 standard) and also the TB test at the authorised medical centre - International Organisation for Migration (IOM)

Also aware of the "Affirmation to Marry" and to register at an Amphur.


I suppose my main concern is the proving the Marriage is "subsisting" - as this appears to be an "opinion" despite whatever proof we send / write in letters. Although this could be argued with the other requirements - the others do seem to be more hard fact based - does this make sense ?

Yes it does. As long as you can show regular contact between you both + photos when you were together there shouldn't be any doubt. I don't know whether they interview in Thailand at present (others should be able to confirm this), but it would be advisable to ensure your fiancee is familiar with your personal details should she be questioned. Birthday, family info, where you work, how you get there etc.
