carer's allowance and spouses visa?

Post by MrWolf » Wed Apr 27, 2011 8:42 pm

Hi,

I am a U.K. resident living in Northern Ireland. My wife is a U.S. resident living in Missouri. We met in march 2010, were married in Missouri in January 2011. She spent 6 months living here with me between June and December 2010 on a 6 month tourist visa. She is not allowed to re-enter the country until 6 months after that visa expired, so she is currently in america, and we intend to apply for a spouses visa for her to come live with me here when she is allowed to re-enter.

I am currently claiming carer's allowance for my mother and living in my mothers house to make it easy to look after her. When my wife arrives we will be looking for a place of our own and possibly applying for housing benefit.

My wife is currently looking for work in the states which she intends to leave when her visa is approved, and I have a family member that will give her a job in a cafe here when she arrives.

Neither of us have much money in our bank accounts.

I was told that it could affect my wife's visa application if I am claiming benefits, is that the case?

I was also told that I need to prove that we have somewhere stable to live in the U.K. before she arrives. Is that the case?

Any advise would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

both good places to start. You should be aiming not to need to claim any benefits. Perhaps you could stay with your mum and she could show this.
You will need to be able to show an income and over £105 week to support yourselves after any bills outgoings are paid. You do not need to wait for 6 months to apply as this is not a visit but settlement.

Have a look at the above sites and may be post with specific questions

You will need 105.95 remaining weekly after rent or mortgage, council tax and any loan repayments have been met.
