Apply for Visa earlier than 3 months or in third country?

Hi,

I am an Australian citizen and resident beginning study on September 29 2011 in the UK. I have a trip booked in Europe leaving Australia on June 29 (exactly 3 months prior to my course beginning). I was hoping to not have to return home between this trip and moving to the UK. However, this requires that I be able to apply for a student visa earlier than 3 months before my course begins, or do it overseas.

Are either of these an option, or do I have to return to Australia?

You cannot apply before 3months, and even if you apply in 3months, your visa will be only valid from 29th August 2011 that is a month before your course begins(if the course is longer than 6months)

Most UK Embassys overseas require you to be a residence in the country if you are applying a UK visa from there, please check the country you intended to apply from.
