Regarding ESOL test for spouse settlement visa

Post by ramanan_srinivasan » Thu May 12, 2011 4:15 pm

Hi All,
I'am in the UK with an indefinite leave to remain and am getting married in July. My fiancee is currently in India and she would be joining me after the wedding. In connection to this, I was looking into the requirements of the Home Office for the settlement visa for spouses and found that there is a requirement that the Spouse who is applying for the Visa will need to take up a test of level 'A1'. Relevant documents on the home office site say ESOL test will be good enough to show this qualification. But, the problem here is there are not many dates available in the test center in bangalore at the moment. And the results of the ESOL test takes atleast 20 days to publish from the day of writing the test.

So we were wondering if she could take up IELTS instead since the test involves an online process and IELTS according to home office documents is of level B1 or above.

My question is - will IELTS be considered instead of ESOL when we have to apply for my fiancee's visa ?

Please can someone help me with this and also provide me home office website links to ensure that i dont miss out anything on the fine print ?

Any responses will be really welcome.

Thanking in advance.

Ramanan.

Hi All

Although IELTS is listed in the new listed of approved providers in effect from the 18th of July 2011. I am hearing that some people are saying that IELTS will no longer be sufficient for Spouse VISA. Howver I do not think that this information/rumor is correct but I would senior member of this forum to confirm whether this information is correct or not?

Thanks
Feb 2012 - Spouse Visa - New Delhi
Mar 2012 - Documents collected - VISA Granted
March 2014 - ILR Granted
Apr 2015 - Applied for Naturalisation
Nov 2015 - Naturalised

Thanks every one for replying back.

I have one more question regarding ESOL.
The uk home office site says that a person applying for Spouse visa has to take up an English language test of level A1. My fiancee is based in Bangalore and she wanted to find out if ESOL or KET qualifies for this level A1. Sorry to be a pain, its just been confusion for her to make up her mind on whether to write IELTS or ESOL. So we thought we ll clarify this as well.

Please can someone help with this query ?

Thanks very much in advance.
