Court fine 3 months after Tier 1.What are my ILR chances?

Post by chidol4u » Tue May 24, 2011 10:21 pm

I got into trouble with the traffic police for buying a discounted ticket that I wasn't entitled to in Aug 2009.Was a stupid mistake and first time of ever being questioned by the law for 30yrs.I was fined in a Magistrate court for about £300 in Dec 2009 which I have paid off.My problem is that I got my Tier 1 visa in Aug 2009 which means that by the time I have renewed my current visa and I am due for ILR,I will have about 3-4 months left to spend my criminal record (I gather from other posts that this now affects ILR applications).

My second problem is that I work offshore as well as having to make occasional trips on business for my employers.I spend about 2 months at a time on offshore trips and 1-3 weeks on business trips but all for my employer.I also understand that being absent for more than 180 days will affect my application. My employer is happy to give me a letter to cover for my business and offshore trips if necessary.I also have a Seaman's book (which is similar to passport or immigration document) that shows when I sign in and out of each vessel.

I'll appreciate any advice on what my chances are for qualifying for ILR in 2014.Is there anything I can do between now and then to better my chances of qaulifying?Do I simply pack it up and leave as my only reason for staying back is because my wife especially feels that a few more years is worth the wait.Otherwise,I can live and work for my employers from wherever I want to live in the world and a few other countries may actually work better for my career progression.I will like to stay back for the sake of my wife and the children we hope to have as she seems happy here. Please help if you are in a position to offer advice.
