Degree not relating to work experience

Post by surcha » Tue Jul 18, 2006 12:08 pm

Hi, I have a BBA (Bachelors in Business Administration) degree, but when I completed the degree, I went in to the field of Software Developement. I have now more than 6 years experience in software developement and the job profile, according to the case workers manual is a graduate level job.

My only question is, would there be any problems because my degree is not related to my work.

No, I don't think there is absolutely any problem with this. Infact I am a science graduate but moved on to the Accounting and Finance field. It depends what you are posing your degree for. If you are claiming the points for being graduate, it does not matter what stream you have graduated with.

Surcha

This does not matter at all. I have a degree in Education and i have 12 years work experience in a Bank. I claimed points under qualification and also under work experience.

Good luck.

Hi Surcha,

If you are claimimg in work experience some points, then you must have to justify the relevance of your Background(Bachelor's degree) to your chosen field in your cover letter. It does matter a little as the caseworker may question your degree in relevance to your new role. So you can explain that due to economic/unemployment reasons in your country and challenges you saw in IT,you have to change to IT.

Hope this makes your day.

Regards and best wishes.
