Urgent - Switching categories to Tier 4 Student

Post by bblack31904 » Fri Jun 03, 2011 2:22 am

Hi

I have a query regarding switching visa categories whilst still in the United Kingdom, that is, switching to a Student Tier 4 Visa whilst still in the country and not having to go back to my home country to apply.

Basically, I am currently a dependent of someone who is in the country on a Work Permit. We are soon to seperate, and I have received an offer for a course and I would like to apply for a Tier 4 Student Visa as a main applicant, and ideally I would like to do this whilst still in the U.K.

I am a South African citizen, and I saw on the UKBA website that someone who is on a Work Permit can switch to a Tier 4 whilst still in the U.K. but it doesn't mention anything about whether a dependent of someone on a Work Permit can do this.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

Sorry, just to further clarify, I am currently a Work Permit Dependent, and we plan on separating either before or just after I apply for the Tier 4 Student Visa, if this makes more sense

You can't switch from work permit dependent to tier 4 student from within the UK. You need to apply for entry clearance from abroad.
