mumbai miracle!

Post by maria pali » Mon Jul 24, 2006 6:52 pm

I'm not sure if I'm dreaming but my husband phoned the High Commission today to be told to come and collect his visa from the VFS. And after over 3 months of waiting, there it is - he has the visa - no interview even!
We had lots of real doubts, but just to give hope to you in the same position.
These were our doubts:
He'd previously overstayed his UK visa
No friends or relatives at the wedding - just us two in the shabby registry office there
I'm 15 years older than him
His family are unaware of our marriage
I used my overdraft facility a couple of times and I earn very little
The job offer he had came from a small business and their headed paper is printed from a computer
I'm newly self employed - had no guidelines or idea how long I needed to proove this or what evidence to show
I think there was more..
On the positive side:
I researched and collated evidence for 3 months before submitting the application - can't stress how important it is not to rush your application
I changed my name to his pretty sharpish so had bank records, tenancy agreement, National insurance evidence and Passport in my new name - I'm sure this helped to show that we were serious about our relationship.
Maybe being totaly honest helped - we admitted that his family were uninvolved, we also used a high risk stratagie, which I wouldn't suggest any one try - we stated that there was no way i could live In India, as I could not live with his family and it would be very hard indeed to get a job there - I'm a cleaner here - not great job prospects for a cleaner in india!! This could have backfired, as aparantly they could have said that we were not intending to maintain our relationship, should his visa fail!!
Other than that, we had heaps of letters from friends and my family, stating the relationship was real and that we will have a Renewal of Vows Ceromany once in the UK,
Our accomadation evidence was very strong, and i gave evidence of my continued work contracts
And of course all the usual stuff that you will have read on this forum again and again.
So have hope.
Thanks to all who have supported me or given advice, especially John and Ppron
I think I need a drink now!
