Regarding the IELTS test.

Post by Angel592 » Mon Jun 20, 2011 8:31 pm

I've two questions regarding the IELTS examination.

I live in Ireland, but I'm going to be in the UK this summer so I was wondering is it okay to sit the exam in any centre or does it have to be in your country of residence? I will be staying in Birmingham during my stay in the UK, but I need to sit my exam at the earliest date I can and that would be in July in London.

Also, could anyone please explain to me the grading of the IELTS exam and what's the total of it, like the marking scheme?

Cheers!

Yes, you can do Ielts anywhere in the world.

For Ielts grading, log on to www.ielts.org

In speaking and writing, there is no part marking.
i.e you get either 5 band or 6 band and so on. But these two sections are not marked 5.5 band or 6.5 band.

Thanks! So what mark do you have to get to pass?

it is not really about passing or failing. Your university will tell you what your entry requirements are e.g. 6.0 overall and no lower that 5.5 in any one component.
