Tier 1 visa aspirant question!!!!!!

I am a US citizen, have worked in the UK on HSMP visa from Jan 2008 till July 2009. I had a valid HSMP visa from Jan 2008 - Jan 2010. But due to some unforeseen circumstances we had to head back to US.

Now, I am really looking forward to come back to the UK. I am seeking information as to how, in the current situation, can that be accomplished.

Is there a way I can renew/extend my expired HSMP visa? :!:
Or
Do I apply for a brand new Tier 1 visa(general), which if I am not wrong has been terminated, and may become available at some point?
Or
Any other suggestions .. :?:

Hi us2uk,

Unfortunately the tier 1 general route is now closed.

You can look at the Tier 2 route or the exceptional talent route if you qualify for either of them.
