Spouse visa questions - Egyptian husband

Post by Abelel » Sat Jul 02, 2011 9:24 pm

Hi,

I have a couple of questions about applying for a spouse visa for my Egyptian husband (I'm British).

Firstly, we heard that the immigration interview has been dropped? This seems unlikely to me, so I'd like to find our for sure, of course and what the implications are of that? It seems unlikely that they will allow the process to be easier at this time?!

We are in the process of doing the new English test requirement before making the actual application and feel in a good position that we have everything we need - accommodation, adequate although not huge finances, plenty evidence of having met several times in egypt and daily contact when I'm in UK etc. However we have conflicting information about whether a job offer is required for my husband given that we are applying for a spouse visa. We're under the impression that as long as we can prove we have a place to live and enough income to not try to live off the state, that that is adequate. However, I have also read on this forum that a job offer needs to be in place as part of the application.

I'd appreciate any additional information on this point. Thanks.

Whilst most decision on applications are made on the basis of the supporting documents you provide, people are occasionally asked to attend for an interview if the ECO has major doubts on an application.

The offer of a job is not an essential requirment

The fact that there may not be an interview doesn't necessarily mean the authorities have made the process easier for applicants. It means that the documents submitted must be spot on as the ECO will decide whether the application is valid on the strength of the evidence you've presented.

Sure, that's what I was wondering. Less chance to prove yourself face to face and I wonder if you get the slightest thing wrong, that will be that.

Any tips on common pitfalls with documents? I have a list of what we have to provide but I guess there may be things to look out for which aren't clear from that.

Thanks again.

The documents should be original or certified copies of any that aren't.
Submit clear evidence of finance (and employment if applicable), adequate accommodation and proof of contact throughout the relationship with translated marriage certificate if necessary.
Ensure the A1 test certificate complies with the rules.
