Expediting Tier 2 Process

Hi,

Does anybody know if there is any way to help expedite the tier 2 application process AFTER biometrics have been taken?

I have heard that writing a letter (sent by mail) will often help if you mention you have travel plans. Does anybody have any idea if this is correct or not?

Reading through tier 2 application time lines forum (for 2011) it seems to be consistently around 4 weeks processing time once the biometrics are taken.

I experienced this and i received it between 3 to 4 weeks of time. This is during June 2011.

if some1 is waiting for tier 2 application to be granted whilst in UK, can that person work or just sit at home waiting for the visa??
