Biometric Resident Permit - HELP

Post by berg5080 » Wed Jul 27, 2011 4:41 pm

Hi,
I am a student in the UK. Last year in Nov, I went to the toronto office to sort out my Tier 4 application and also do my biometrics. I did all the biometrics and received the visa in my passport. Anyway I am now looking to apply in the new year for a Tier 1 Post study work permit and I was just taking a look at the application form. It says that I need a biometric residence permit. Was I supposed to get this in toronto when I made my application or do I need to apply for this now? No one ever advised me of this so a bit annoyed. I shouldn't have to take my biometrics again as they have them on file so slightly confused. It looks like this was implemented in March 2011 but I started school in Jan so that may be why? There is just no specific guidance on what I should do if I already have taken biometrics but just need the card.
If someone can help me I'd really appreciate it.
Miriam

Perhaps you need to read the form a bit more carefully. No where does it say you need a biometric residence permit to apply for psw. What is says is that if you have been issued a biometric residence permit then you need to provide it with your application. It also says that as part of your application you apply for a residence permit, which simply means that you have to give your biometrics again as part of your application and that if it is successful you will be issued with a separate biometric residence permit in the form of a card rather than receiving a sticker in your passport. Biometric residence permits are not issued from outside the UK hence why you don'thave one.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I am just surprised that I have to go and do the biometrics again if I've already provided this in Toronto. Are there additional costs for this or do I just go into one of the centres and make an appointment? Is there no way for the biometrics I provided back in Nov 2010 to be used to get a biometrics residence card?

No everyone has to provide biometrics each time they make an application where biometrics are required they make sure it is the same person applying each time.

After you submit your application they will send you a letter to make a biometric appointment. You don't pay extra unless you choose to go to the post office walk in to give your biometrics rather than make an appointment.

OK great. At least I don't have to do anything in advance. I appreciate your help. Thanks a lot, :)
