Applying for ILR in the next few weeks

Post by djmarkybee » Mon Sep 12, 2011 9:17 am

Hi Guys,

My wife is applying for ILR in the next fews weeks at Croydon Home Office with the premium service (She is from Hong Kong Originally - Current Nationality: British National (Overseas).

Everyone here knows how stresfull these whole visa applications are and as we are on the final leg, I am just wondering if there have been any changes in the law that we need to know about before applying??

I'm a UK National, we both have full time jobs and live in a private rented accomodation. Good salary and clean records (I have a few little debts but thats just me personally and dont not talking 10's of thousands here. I'm not old enough to accumlate that much debt yet!)

SO.. if anyone has any advice or has been through the ILR process recently and can give us some words of warning/advice we we be gratefull.

I just would like this whole ordeal over so we can finally buy a house and settle down proper.

regards
Mark B.

Changes in the law happen on a very regular basis. You seem to asking for advice in general rather than something specific. There is plenty of information on the forum about the process. What do you know already and what are the gaps in that knowledge that you need help with? If there is a specific aspect of the application that you are worried about then please indicate this for us so we may offer some comment.

Hi there,

Thank you for your reply.

I guess i'm just worried about them thinking that might small debt I have will effect my wife getting her ILR?

I guess they are really only looking at her accounts in more depth to make sure she can support herself on the wages she has? Am I correct in thinking this?

With partner applications the finances are always considered jointly (and obviously, otherwise a lot of married women who don't work or have savings would not qualify for settlement!).

(v) the parties will be able to maintain themselves and any dependants adequately without recourse to public funds; and..............

Loans or debts are not a problem if you are servicing those and are otherwise living within your means and have not been accessing public to which you were not entitled.

Hi Lucapooka,

Thankyou for that advice.

Yes, My wife currently has 2 jobs and has a lot of savings which I guess will go in her favour.

I have a well paid job also but a few debts which was the main reason for my concern (to be honest, she can support herself without the needs of my finances anyway so I'm guessing this is going to be looked on as a good thing?)

Yes, I have never touched public funds and neither has my wife as she has not been entitled to this.

Once this is done, do you have a rough idea on how to get to the next step of Naturalisation as she would like to become a british citizen.

kind regards
Mark B
