spouse visa question

i was in uk illegally, now in application form they have asked if i have visted uk in last 10 years and i said yes, how will i explain as i did not have visa,
Who shall separate me from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? or even VISA REFUSAL?
