Hi everyone,
My spouse is in a bit of a crisis at the moment. She is already in the UK on a Tier 4 visa. However when she went to register at the school today, she found out that the UKBA had issued her a visa for the wrong school!
Now she can't register at her course and has to apply for a change in visa. Any idea what are the next steps? Any kind of help is welcome on this.
She would be meeting with the school's Student Affairs people today, but any information anyone can share is more than helpful.

Was this a visa issued outside the UK or a residence permit issued inside the UK?

Outside the UK, in India to be precise.
The school concerned says that the visa has been issued with another CAS number, and their own CAS number currently is showing as 'not inputted'.
I believe that they've asked her to reapply/change. But may give her temporary registration to the school.

This would be a clear mistake by the visa processing agency surely...?

In my opinion the best, and most expedient, approach would be to email the ECM or operations manager at the post where the visa was issued and explain about the mistake. He should provide you with a statement of explanation that you can send to RCU EC Errors, Croydon, for a correction of your vignette. Otherwise he will give other relevant advice on what to do. Tell them it's urgent as the course is commencing. Otherwise, if you contact the UKBA in Croydon directly, before doing this suggested step, they may waste time contacting the post in India and waiting for the ECM to confirm the mistake as they will need his letter of confirmation in any case.
Correcting an incorrect endorsement.
If you wish to complain about the service you have received from the UK's Visa Services in India, please address your complaint to the Operations Manager and send your e-mail to the following depending on your area of application:
Northern India, Eastern India and Nepal: visqry.newdelhi@fco.gov.uk
Southern India, Sri Lanka: chennai.visaenquiry@fco.gov.uk
Western India: mumbai.visaenquiries@fco.gov.uk
Alternatively, you may submit your complaint in writing to one of the following addresses:
UK Border Agency Chennai, British Deputy High Commission, 20 Anderson Road, Chennai 600 006
UK Border Agency New Delhi, British High Commission, Shantipath, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi 110 021
UK Border Agency Mumbai, British Deputy High Commission, Naman Chambers, C32 G Block, Bandra Kurla Complex, Bandra East Mumbai 51

Did your wife have more than one CAS number i.e. did she apply to more than one university?

lucapooka, thanks a lot. Have mailed the ECM in question with a full update on the case.
Greenie - no at the time of application there was just one CAS number active, since she hadn't requested a CAS for any other school.
The word is that the school will allow the registration to happen temporarily because it seems its as much their mistake as UKBA.

How is it the school's mistake?
They had provided an incorrect licence number for sponsor. Anyway, seems the solution's been worked out, registration will be done with a change in visa.
Thanks everyone.
