Hi,
Apologies if this has been covered before but I am new to this forum. I have two questions.
I am about to apply for my British citizenship. I am South African and have been on ILR for more than two years so time wise I qualify.
To retain my SA citizenship I understand that I need to have confirmation that I've never applied for British citizenship. On a different notice board the advice was to just send a letter to the Liverpool address and await a letter confirming this. Now it seems that there is a form and a fee of £86 to pay. Which is correct?
My second question is about tax. From what I've seen one of the major requirements for applying for citizenship is that your tax situation needs to be correct and up to date. I also understand that you have to provide P60's for the last five years.
I have a problem in that I'm not able to get a P60 for the tax year 2009/2010. I was unemployed for most of that year but the employer I had from Jan 2010 - Sept 2010 did not provide me with a P60. I have tried repeatedly to obtain this but to no avail. I'm also not sure he paid my PAYE even though he deducted it from my pay (and it's shown as such on my payslips). What to do? Are the P60's imperative?
Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for any advice.
