MN1 Registration - Certified copies

Hi there,
I have been granted ILR and I want to apply for registration for my son. Can I get certified copies sent in of our passports.....is that what the national checking service do??? As we will be travelling all the time now and I can not be without my passport. Also I only have ILR and my fiancé has an ancestry extension......is that ok that only my name is on application. Also we are not married but will be in Jan '12.
Your help will be greatly appreciated
