Simple question about maintenance fees

Post by mia777 » Thu Oct 20, 2011 3:22 pm

Hi all.

I am going to soon be applying for a post-study work visa from inside the UK.

I need to have £800 in my bank account for the past 90 days. I have a checking account and savings account.

Let's say I had £1,000 in my checking account. I don't like to have much money in my checking account so I transferred £800 to my savings account.

Does this still count as having the required minimum for 90 days? Both accounts are in my name and are basically the same except one has a debit card associated with it.

Thanks for your hep.

does 'checking account' has cash deposit which you can withdraw like any other account?

assuming both accounts ONLY contain cash deposits which you have access to....

all you need to do is choose 1 account and put 800 pounds or more in that account for 90 days. that is the most straight-forward way of satisfying requirements.

if you are short of 800 pounds on ANY day in your 90-day period, then you will need to prove that you had money on that day in another account. bottom line is 800 pounds must be maintained at all times for 90 days

Since I'll be applying soon, I can't use the "one account option" anymore.

Both accounts should be fine. A checking account just means you can write checks on it. Acording to the guidance:
Evidence must be in the form of
cash funds held in an account (this includes
savings accounts and current accounts even
when notice must be given).
I simply want to know if I've met the ninety days requirement if I've maintained a balance over £800.00 for that amount of time but in two different accounts (I transfer money between them in the online banking interface).

From what you said, it seems okay.

Thanks for your help.

as long as when you transferred the money from one account it immediately went to the other and it didn't take a few days to clear it will be OK. You should also highlight on both statements to indicate the transfer from one to the other.

Thanks. That was actually my question... the guidance says you can use two accounts but I wanted to know how to best show that in proving the 90 days with the two accounts.
