Switching from student visa to spouse visa

Post by keloid » Mon Oct 24, 2011 11:26 am

Hi,

My girlfriend is studying english on an extended student visitor visa. The visa was granted for 11 months.

We are thinking about getting married (I am a UK citizen) and applying for a spouse visa.

The UKBA seems to suggest that switching from any category to a spouse visa is possible, as long as the applicant has been the UK for more than 6 months.

I just wanted to check whether a holder of an extended student visitor visa would be able to switch to a spouse visa?

many thanks

Not possible. Such visas are granted outside the immigration rules and therefore don't qualify for switiching (even though they are for more than six months).
