settlement for grandmother in UK as a visitor

I am asking question on behalf of my friend.

he sponsored his grandmother as visitor and 6 month visa expires in jan 2012.

can he apply for settlement of his grandmother. i think i read he can use form set F?

SET F is the right form but that would only be relevant if the applicant has the right circumstances.

just to follow up

what documents will he need to provide?

he was wage slips and bank statements for last 2 years
he does not have great saving maybe just £1k but spends money on himself, his wife (who also works) and his child and supports his grandmother.

his grandmother lived alone (her son was with her temporarily and then moved away to work in saudi) she has no support.

I appreciate you are trying to help your friend but, in fact, you may be doing immense damage. If he were to actually make an application based on the tips you are passing on to him, garnered from the scant and incomplete information you have mentioned here, then he may be making a grave error of judgement. He needs to seek legal advice on the suitability his and his GM's exact circumstances. Someone professionally competent needs to pick over the case to see if it has any merit. Otherwise, if he applies without taking this step, it's very likely that the application will be refused and the GM may then be removed and never be granted another visa to visit the UK.
