German Work Permit - AGAIN!!!!

Post by Wanderer » Sat Sep 23, 2006 9:14 pm

We're still waiting for it!

But, the German employer has sent us a letter, with an enclosure from 'Bundesagentur Fur Arbeit'

It's in German, gf not here to translate, but it's stamped by 'Zentralstelle Fur Arbeitsvermittlung' in Bonn.

I'm not totally sure what this is or what it implies or authorises. Is it the Work Permit, (doubt this) or is it merely the authorities confirming the employer is allowed to contract the employee?

We've heard nothing from the German Embassy in London.....

Both these titles are Amtsprache. That's German for bureaucratese.

Anyway, 'Bundesagentur Fur Arbeit' is the Federal Employment Agency.

'Zentralstelle Fur Arbeitsvermittlung' is the Central Labour Exchange office.

The work permit will be placed in your passport as the second page of your residence permit. It won't come as a letter.

For future reference, this website is very good. You're not a proper German resident until you've become thoroughly addicted to it.
