PhD?

Post by Alex11 » Mon Nov 21, 2011 3:38 pm

Hello, i have searched ukba website, however was not able to find exact information about PhD, so i am currently on a Tier 4 Visa, doing Masters degree, which i should obtain in September 2012. So my questions are:

1) can i apply for a tier 4 visa extenshion or not?
2) when is it the best time for applying, before or after obtaining my degree?
3) do i have to get a new CAS or just a letter from the University, are there any other special requirements that i have to follow?
4) As an international student, can i only apply on a full-time PhD, same as i did on full-time only Masters, or i can apply on a part time course?

Thanks

1.) Yes, you can apply for extension but read Tier-4 Guidance carefully on UKBA website. The process is same for all courses either MA/MSc/MPhill/PHd whatever.

2.) Best time is, apply before one-month when your current visa is gonna expire.

3.) Yes, you need new CAS from University.

4.) International students can only do full-time studies.

Visa matters are so complicated nowadays so my suggession is start reading the guidance now or consult a good lawyer.

if you are studying at another university then you will not be able to start studying there until you have made a tier 4 application, so waiting for one month before your visa expires may not be an option.

Presumably the offer of a PhD will be on the basis of being awarded your masters degree so you are unlikely to be able to apply before you have been awarded your masters.
