Dependent maintenance and sponsor for student

Post by Gogona » Sun Dec 04, 2011 11:50 am

Hi,

I fear my case is rather confusing but I will try to be brief. I am applying to extend my tier 4 student visa along with my husband as a my dependent. I receive a studentship from my university which pays all my tuition plus provides a maintenance allowance of 1,235 per month for the entire duration of my studies. I am also on the low risk category of students. I am aware that for just my own application my CAS which shows my studentship etc. is enough for my application to be successful. My query is in regards to my dependent.

My sponsorship provides more than the needed 600 per month for me and even enough to cover the needed 400 per month for my dependent. However, my university has refused to issue me a letter including my dependent's name (as required according to the policy guidance for dependents) which is needed to count the sponsorship letter towards his funds. Also, he is NOT on the low risk list because he has a different nationality so we are required to submit original evidence. Because of this, I think I am probably still needing to show 800 pounds (two months maintenance) for him. The part that has me confused is the bit which says
"NB. If he/she is applying at the same time as the Tier 4 (General) Student, the funds that he/she provides evidence of must be in addition to the funds for the Tier 4 (General) student. The same money cannot be counted twice.
For example, if the Tier 4 (General) student provides a letter confirming that he/she is in 101. receipt of official financial sponsorship and the family member provides bank statements to cover his/her own living costs, the money held in the bank account must be in addition to the money that has been provided by the official financial sponsor to cover the Tier 4 (General) Student."

If I show bank statements from our joint account (we don't have separate accounts) how much needs to be available for the entire 28 days. Is it my entire studentship plus 800 for him? This seems unfair since my studentship is well above the 600 required per month for me however the wording suggests this might be the case? Or perhaps I should still have 2 months maintenance available for both of us (which is a little less than my studentship plus 800). Or perhaps I only need to show that when I get paid from the university at the end of the month that this comes in on top of the 800 we have currently for his maintenance.

I hope I am making sense here. Can anyone who is knowledgeable about this please help me. I have gone to numerous advisors on campus and searched far and wide on the internet for an answer to this and nobody seems to know. I need to know soon because I am running short on time to have a full 28 days bank statement before submitting my application before mid-january.

Thank you.
