time limit to enter UK after receiving entry clearance

Post by ahjirasa » Fri Dec 30, 2011 12:12 am

Hi.
I received my entry clearance on Dec 3rd (stamped into my passport that day). Its for 2 years. I'm wondering if there is a limit to the time I can wait before entering for the first time.
I vaguely remember reading that I had 3 months before I had to enter the first time but I don't remember exactly so I was hoping for clarification.
My EC is based on unmarried partner. It was originally refused but then granted after an appeal.
Thank you for your help.

The visa is valid for 27 months and you can enter anytime during that period. If you delay entry by more than 3 months and 28 days, there will be a shortfall in the mandatory residence period that you need to complete to convert your leave to ILR because your leave will expire too soon. All this means is that you have to make an expensive extension to bridge the gap.
