Proof of hotel bookings for tourist visit?

Post by MrWolf » Wed Jan 18, 2012 5:45 pm

Hi,

My wife is an American citizen and I am a U.K. citizen living in Northern Ireland. We are currently working on getting her a u.k. visa, but for now we are just going to take a break together in Ireland.

We tend to travel around and book hotels and hostels on the fly while we are traveling, but last time she came into Ireland without much evidence to show where she was staying the immigration at Dublin nearly didn't let her enter.

Obviously this time we intend to book some of the hotels in advance so we have evidence of the bookings to show immigration, but we didn't want to have to book all the hotels in advance as she is staying for 35 days and we didn't want to have to plan our whole stay in advance.

Can anyone tell me what the rules for immigration are in this regard, and therefore what is the minimum evidence that we will need to provide for the immigration?

Thank you.

Hi Mr Wolf.

Maybe IQU has already informed you about this.

Apply for a "Accompany EU citizen for a visit" visa using Directive 2004/38/EC. Visa will be issued free and has to be processed in an accelerated manor.

You may also be able to get the EEA Family Permit in the UK if you have an Irish passport???? I'm not sure if you do. People who live in Northern Ireland have a right to dual nationality I think. I'm not too familiar on this but I can point you somewhere you can read about it if you so wish.

I have another post on here http://www.immigrationboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=91141 , where I have done the same for my Non-EU spouse. I have posted the letters I used too to accompany the visa application. It is basically my experience of this for others to read and follow.

You might find it useful.

If you need anything just ask and I may be able to help or advise.

Good luck.
