indefinite leave to remain and further leave to remain

i got my work permit in september 2000, and started working on the 1st of october 2000, if i normally apply on the (1st of october-28 days) 6 september(monday) will i be ok. i know it was ok in jan this year, however since then i learnt about the backlog. i read some place that one needs to apply 3 months in advance?

also what are the documents that i need to produce. i have misplaced, possibly lost that white paper that i got from the home office(the one with the home office stamp on it), is the obtaining of ILR a simple affair, do i just produce the requisite documents, give them 250 pounds and i get my ILR?


another company is willing to sponsor me for a work permit, is that ransferring a work permit? how long will it take them to get me a permit, i dont know if it is worth while getting my indefinite leave to remain and then moving, the new company want me to join immediately, which will take me to the end of august.

is it advisable to hand in my resignation, and then get the second company to apply for my work permit or should i insist that the second company sorts out my work permit first before i hand in my resignation.
what if the second company mess up my permit, will that mess up my chances to get ILR at the end of four years?

You may have two options

1. Apply by post during Aug end - this cost £150. You will have to send the application and relevant docs by post.

2. Go to a immigration office (Croydon if you are in the south east of England) with the docs below. Fee : £250 (peace of mind is costly - £100 extra !!)

Docs:

1. Employer letter
2. Last 6 months Payslips
3. Current Work permit document(s).
3. Bank/Credit card statements
4. Rental/mortgage agreement papers

i have misplaced by current work permit document some place? i can't locate it. since it was my student visa which got converted to a work visa, hence there is no indication on my passport that i have a work permit.

when i apply for ILR, would i need to produce both work permit documents, or the current one.
where can i get a duplicate of my old work permit document?

i also have to move accommodation(the landlady has served us notice) a week before i am eligible for accomodation. so would i be producing accommodation letter from both landlords/landladies

my wife hould have been on a work permit dependent visa for a year when we apply, will she be eligible for ILR, or does the 2 year rule apply to her?
and then what visa can she apply for?

i would appreciate the help
