T1 General Extension duration and eligibilty?

Hello,
I switched from Tier 2 to T1 General last year and the current T1 general visa is valid upto March 2013 (got for 2 years).
Is it correct that the next extension of T1G will be for 3 years? My objective is to be able to apply for ILR eventually. Pls confirm.

Also what is the eligibility for extension application? Is it going to be points based again? It would be great if somebody can provide the correct link to get more information.
