Spouse Visa Application

Post by pauldm21 » Sun Feb 05, 2012 11:21 pm

Hi Folks,

just looking for a bit of clarity on my situation and application....

I am getting married in Peru on 14th April and am hoping to submit my wife's spouse visa application as soon as possible after the wedding. I am sponsoring the application and before I go over, I will have compiled the following:

-Sponsor letter from me
-Certified passport copy
- copy of birth certificate
- my bank statements, wage slips, confirmation of salary
- letter from my parents stating they are willing and able to accommodate us in their home until we find alternative accommodation
- letter or support from 2 friends.
- emails dating from when we met until present.
- photos of my previous visits to Peru, Photos of us together in the UK, and photos of engagement
- boarding passes of my previous visits to Peru.

Our plan after getting married is to travel to Lima, where my wife will sit the English test, and then submit the application at the British Embassy. My wife will include....

- covering letter
- passport
- copy of birth certificate
- marriage certificate
- english test pass certificate (hopefully!)

Is this a realistic plan? Am I missing anything out? If we submitted the application on 18th April for example, would there be any chance of the visa being granted by the 28th (when I rtn to UK)?

My main area of concern at the moment is our finances. My fiancee is finishing off her degree at university at the moment so has no income/savings that she can prove. Due to increased rent costs, 2 recent trips to Peru and various wedding expenses, my bank balance has been negative by the end of 4 out of the last 6 months. Is the maintenance requirement based on having a positive bank balance? And will the ECO take into account that my current bank statements are with expenses such as flights to Peru, sending money to Peru for our wedding and rent.... whereas after we are married, these expenses will not exist? I earn £21k basic plus £3-£4k per year.

sorry for the lengthy post.... between this and sorting out the paperwork for getting married over there, my head is spinning!!

thanks in advance for any answers :)

Well, I'm not a professional. But, based on the amount of research I've done, your wages (based on 21000 per year) should be sufficient for maintenance fund. As long as you don't have that much expenses every month that will bite into the wages, so much that it would leave you guys with less than about 175 pounds (around this figure).
They should be able to see this anyway from your past bank statements.
Hope this helps.

For a couply it's currently a minimum of £105.95 remaining weekly after rent or mortgage, council tax and any loan/credit repayments.
