English Language test for ILR Dependant -Is it Mandatory?

Post by Srinibondugula » Tue Feb 14, 2012 3:57 pm

Hi Guys,

This is my first post in the forum. I have been following this forum since quite a long time and I would really appreciate the support and assistance being provided across the board.

I currently hold an ILR visa (issued Nov/2011). I will be getting married very soon in India. I'm planning to apply dependant visa to my spouse as soon as I get married. I have all the documents with me to support the case except English Language requirement document. I'm too confused with this requirement as I'm not too sure whether my wife needs to take IELTS exam back in India to get qualified for this visa. My wife holds a bachelor degree(duration for three years) that was taught in English and it clearly specifies the medium of instruction as English on the degree certificate. I have checked UKBA points based calculator and 30 points have been awarded for this qualification. But I heard from different sources that the dependants applying for settlement visa still need to take English exam despite holding a degree taught in English. Please could you somebody confirm the fact?

I have checked UKBA website meticulously and I believe there is no need take IELTS exam if the applicant holds a degree taught in English and equivalent to UKBA degree. I went to VFS support guys in India, but they have confirmed it fully. So the information isn’t consistent across the board.

I would really appreciate if someone can answer my query.

Thanks,
Sri
