Is Mothers passport required

Hi Guys,

I have naturalised as a British Citizen & will be applying for a British Passport for my newborn baby currently in India. I had a couple of questions.

Is the mothers passport required for the application, even though she holds an Indian passport

In case the mothers passport is not required I was wondering if I can apply from here in the UK sending all the documents to Delhi by post
