ILR requirement - English language and Life in the UK

Post by harv » Wed Mar 07, 2012 11:22 am

Hi

When applying for ILR after the Settlement VSIA (Spouse VISA) (partner of British Citizen). What are the requirements for Language? Is it both Life in the UK as well as the A1 English language?

I am asking his because my wife has completed her IELTS in December 2011 and after 2 years when she applies to ILR the 2 years validity of the IELTS certificate will expire. So if there is still the A1 English language requirement she will have to do some further course to meet the requirements.

I was under the impression that only Life in the UK certificate is required for ILR.

The current requirement is Knowledge of Language and Life in the UK for settlement and there is not a separate A1 speaking and listening requirement. The requirements may be different in 2 years time however.

Thanks Greenie

That makes sense, as I was in the same impression as well.

You never know what the rules come into play, maybe in two years they decide to kick out all foreign spouses ;) lol
