Can I travel 2 days after my PEO appointment (for ILR)?

Post by kudos123 » Mon Mar 12, 2012 5:03 pm

Hi All, I have a confirmed PEO appointment (for ILR) on the 19th of March. The reason that I chose a personal appointment was because as per my understanding then, I would get my application approved (subject to meeting all criteria) the same day and everything is done and dusted the same day. (After all that is why I was paying the premium price !!).
I had to travel out of the country on the 21st which is 2 days after.

However I have just been told that from end of Feb, Biometric permits have been introduced for ILR and hence I would NOT get my ILR BRP on the same day, It will only be sent to me in post in the next 5 days after my appointment date. Moreover, if my app is approved, my current Tier 1 visa will no more be valid. Hence effectively, I will not be able to travel on the 21st, which is driving me mad because I can't cancel or reschedule my travel.

Has anyone attended a personal appointment very recently i.e. after 29th feb and can please share with me what the exact procedure is? i.e do they give you an approval letter at the end of the day which can be used for travel in/out of the country? Can I not travel on my current valid Tier 1 visa till I get my new ILR biometrci card?
I am quite keen to keep my appointment and my travel plans intact. Any advice will immensely help. thanks.....

I don’t think so you will be able to travel as you will have to wait for BRP which can take 7 to 10 days. (although I have seen on this forum that some people got the cards only after 4 days of their appointment, but again there is no guarantee that you will get your card before your travel).

I agree with Linkers. Unfortunately, you will not be able to travel until your Biometric card arrives. The approval letter that they give on the day cannot be used for travel, and on that letter, it clearly advises you not to travel until your card arrives. I had my ILR approved on March 2nd and the BRP card arrived in 3 days. However, it can take anything upto a week.
