Yes you can return to the UK with a valid UK issued residence card, even if it's on a bit of paper. Ridiculous why they don't put it in a neat card, but there you go.bliss2012 wrote:I received my RC over a year ago and I urgently need to travel to my home country Nigeria to visit my critically ill dad.
My RC (Residence Permit) is on paper(A4) and I don't know if I will have problem returning back to the UK with it.
I spoke to UKBA, they all seem to be saying the same thing which is that it depends on the airline or border official to let me in.
They are suggesting I will need to re-apply, that is, Make a fresh application like I am applying for the first time with all my documents and that it could take upto 6 months
UKBA actually are the cause of this problem, as they didn't call back my password as they stated on the letter that my passport was returned with as I called it back to travel with it.
Please I need advice on weather I can travel with my Paper based Residence Card or not. It is quite difficult to start the process of fresh application when my dad is dying in the hospital .
Please help me with your advice.
God bless
My Passport in valid same as my A4 RC(5 Year RESIDENCE PERMIT issued in 2011). my main worry is returning to UK . Especially back in Nigeria and the Airline over there. I dont know if they will recognize the RC being that it is on an A4.EUsmileWEallsmile wrote:Yes you can return to the UK with a valid UK issued residence card, even if it's on a bit of paper. Make sure your passport and card are valid for out and return and you'll be fine.
It's perfectly valid for re-entry to the UK. Did you keep the letter that came with the card? That would help with the airline.bliss2012 wrote:My Passport in valid same as my A4 RC(5 Year RESIDENCE PERMIT issued in 2011). my main worry is returning to UK . I think you'll be fine full stop. Concentrate on your father; you've more than enough to worry about with his health.bliss2012 wrote:ThanksJambo wrote:I would suggest you write down the phone number for the chief immigration officer in the UK airport you are scheduled to arrive. You won't have any problems, relax, you're making a problem for yourself where there is none. Your residence card allows you to travel.
