date of award

Post by Tier 4 » Thu Mar 29, 2012 10:51 pm

I have got a letter from my College for PSW stating;

I have recently completed my qualification
Course start date
End Date
Awarded by

I can confirm that he has completed his course work in order to obtain his qualification which now enables him to apply for a PSW visa.

I can also confirm that the certificate will be send directly to the student.

And some other things

However there is one thing missing in letter DATE OF AWARD

Should that will be a problem as already stated in letter:

Awarded by:
N/A

Please refer to paras 79 and 83 of the current guidance.

I think it`s bizarre that they have actually stated in the same letter that you can apply for PSW! It's not a wrong statement but seems outside their area of responsibility. Did you ask them to include this?

Well, I did not notice at that point since letter already says:

Awarded by:

Awarded by mean qualification has been awarded and date of letter can be date of award, however it doesn’t says about specific date of award right in front of it, which making me worry as after checking UKBA detailed guidance, they does ask for award date.

If you want to actually read the guidance as suggested it will explain how they define the date of award.

When I said 'Did you ask them to include this?' it was in reference to the comment that came before immediately before that question.

Well, college knows my intentions, why I need this letter, so yes I ask them and they add it up. Should that will be a problem?

The letter does not sound right to me. The date of award needs to be on the letter. The title of the qualification needs to be on the letter. If the certificate is not available the letter needs to explain why and when it will be available. I also find it odd that they have mentioned the fact that you can now apply for a psw visa. This is not for the college to say. Does it mention where you studied for the qualification and that your college is on the list of tier 4 sponsors?

Para 79 says the date of award is taken as the date on which the applicant was first notified, in writing, by the awarding institution, that the qualification must show the date of award (as defined in paragraph 79 of these guidance notes)

Does that mean the date on the letter can be treated as the date of the award?

no because the letter is not addressed to the student, it is addressed to UKBA. They need to specify the date of the award on the letter.

Yes, I did not notice that valid point. Why is this letter not addressed to the student?

it doesn't need to be addressed to the student - the letter is issued for the purpose of applying for PSW to meet the requirements of the policy guidance. It is fine for it to be addressed to UKBA or to whom it may concern (this is standard) but the date of the award must be mentioned.

Thanks guys to discussing my problem and clear my concept, my College amended the letter by adding-up the award date as well. So all sorted. Cheers
