Post by The Confused One » Sun Nov 12, 2006 12:38 pm

HI Guys,

Has anyobody here ever had to submit a letter by the Department of Social Security to confirm that they are NOT on benefits or have NEVER claimed benefits?

If so where can this letter be obtained from?

If not what other indications can you give to confirm that you not claiming benfits?

All responses would be very much appreciated

Thanking you all in advance

I dont claim any kinda benfits and never have, nor do i have any contact with Social Security.

I agree with you malakbaby2006, i didnt think this letter was necessary as its clear from the evidence that i have provided that i dont recieve any kind of benefits.

Thanks so much for your help

Where did your husband take his papers to be checked? Cos I gotta say, in pak there's a lot of people that offer to check over applications for a fee and a lot of the time they give incorrect advice.

You can't get one standard letter to say that you are not in any receipt of benefits, you'd have to get in touch with all the relevant agencies and get a letter from each one to say you aren't getting benefits from that particular agency ie the job centre, the housing dept, the inland revenue.

You could do it to strengthen your application but its a lot of hassle (and I think you'll have a job getting them to co operate cos they tend to only issue letters that are prewritten on their systems) and to be honest if all your other evidence is in place then you won't need it anyway.

Ie your payslips will reflect that you work work full time and pay taxes anyway, so it's unlikey that you could also claim benefits like jobseekers allowance at the same time.

I thought you'd submitted your application already?

Hey Guys,

I rang the Jobcentre Plus and asked them for a letter, she was a bit reluctant at first but then said that she will send me one in first class post, it was only a few lines to confirm that i am not in reciept of any social security benefits and have never claimed before either.

Brit Chick,

I sent the paperwork to my husband a few weeks ago and he was suuposed to submit them in FedEx office in Mirpur but on the day he decided to run them by another immigration adviser (for second opinion) and was given a list of items missing:

* P60 (but a P2 will do instead)

* Letter from Department of Social and Security to confirm that i am not in reciept of any public funds

*Attested letter from landlord giving permission for me and hubby to reside at property (I did include a letter but it was not attested)

* A certified copy of my landlords passport

* An attested copy of the property's Land Registy from the Landlord

* Confirmation that i am paying rent when it clearly says on my letter that i am not currently paying rent but will do when hubby joins me and when we move into rented accomodation together

I am still waiting for the P2 from the Inland Revenue and i cant submit evidence of rent when i am not paying any but other than that i have everything else now and will submit hopefully soon.

With regards to the letter from the Jobcentre....if you don't get anything in the next few days then it's probably worth actually visiting the branch and getting them to do your letter for you there and then - be insistent!

I had a lot of hassle getting my letter and kept being passed from dept to dept, and finally someone said they would send a letter and surprise surprise it never arrived. I went to the branch and asked them to type something up.....they were reluctant but I was insistent and also I did go in at a quiet time (the staff were eating eclairs when I walked in  )
