my wife entered the uk on a spouse visa which had a ILE stamp on her passport(no no recourse to public funds stamped on her passport) in august 2008 i wasworking till 31st july 2011 when i lost my job. then when i applied for jobseekers allowance iwas told that i would only be paid for myself. since last august till now i have only been paid the single rate. my wife has now got her citizenship but i would like to know if she is entitled for the period above.
also i would like to know how would i able to get a backdate as the decision makers seem to keep saying she is not entitled to any benefit
please can someone help me in regards to this query
yours

contribution based is only ever paid at single persons rate.
are they paying you the couple's rate now? is your wife working?

Approach your local cab for advice on how to challenge this. I thought you said your wife was now British?

Your wife did have recourse to public funds when she had ILE however as explained between August and Jan when you were claiming contribution based it would not have been possible to claim this at couples rate, it is only ever clamed at single person's rate.
Has your wife been actively seeking work since August and when did she attempt to make an income based claim?
