Provisional Drivers License

Hi there I am currently here on an EEA family permit which "valid until" date has run out. I was wondering if i could still applied for a UK license.... Since i still have the right to live and work in the UK since my wife is executing her treaty rights?? I was looking over the forum for the DVLA and it says i have to be a UK resident or i can get £1000 fine. I can send with the form my council tax pay slips and passport if needed.

And FYI I am Canadian

i' not sure but i think you should be in uk more than 135 days(see in the application) that's it,you passport is enough(don't forget to include signed photo in the back from someone knows you more than 3 years)

I've been in the UK for almost a year I'll call them tomorrow see what they say and I do not think i need to get someone to sign it that has known me for 3 years seeing as I am sending them my original passport

read the booklet which come with the application.

I have the only question i have was based on section 7 (your declaration) of the form i states "I declare that I am resident in the UK.... blah blah blah." I'll just call the home office tomorrow and ask them and then call the dvla also.

Call the DVLA. I believe you will be fine just with your passport. The £1000 fine is to prevent visitor from applying for a UK licence (has to do with a exploiting a loophole - nothing to do with immigrations).

BTW - I presume that you are aware that if you are holding a Canadian driving licence, you dont need a provisional driving licence. you can just exchange the Canadian for a UK one although it would be an automatic vehicles only (unless you prove you passed a manual transmission in Canada).

YES, you're very Correct, in your own case you do not need anyone to sign your photo just go ahead and apply it's not a big deal since you have been here for almost 1yr, best of luck mate.

Yes i know about transferring the Canadian license I have never had one (no need in the small little town i lived in). I've sent them an email to confirm what you've just said "which is what i was thinking. Just to have it in writing. I'll let you know what the reply is.

Just got off the phone with the dvla and they said as long as i am living in the UK that it is fine to apply for the license all i have to show send is my passport and a council tax bill

Yes, just done mine it took just 2weeks, it's very Simple and you can track the progress online if you want.

Hi Ryan, just thought i should mention, i do hope you applied for a Residence Card after you came into the UK with your Family Permit?

Well sent away for the licence on Saturday last week got back all my info I sent (passport was all i needed) and got it all back today took a grand total of a week to get back
