Naturalisation app - potential relocation in the next 6 mos?

Post by rayofsun » Sat Apr 21, 2012 12:35 pm

Hi everyone,

I am a citizen of a EU member country and have lived in Ireland since July 2005 and have been in full-time employment since.

After almost 7 years here I have decided to apply for Irish citizenship through naturalisation, however, might be relocating for a career opportunity in the next six months, give or take.

As far as I've read the residency requirements to be eligible to apply you must have a resided in Ireland for at least a year (uninterrupted) prior to making the application. I fulfill this requirement now, but I understand the processing time can vary (between 1 - 2 years at the moment??) and would the fact that I temporarily relocate affect my application negatively?

I can't say when my application is going to be picked up for processing and if at the time I am not living in Ireland, would this pretty much automatically mean my application will be rejected?

Thanks for your responses!

Part of the application states that you intend to reside in Ireland after gaining citizenship, so I'd imagine your chance of rejection does rise if you're not living in the country.
