confused! advice please

I was born in the UK and i am now 26 and have never left the country other than a family holiday where i was put on my mothers passport. I cannot obtain a passport for myself as my parents were not classed as settled until shortly after i was born as she is vietnamese and my father is chinese. I know that i am eligible for registering as a bc since i have been here at least the first 10 years of my life but are there any other options that are cheaper as i would really like to get my citizenship sorted out before i get married next year and i feel like paying 620 for citizenship isnt right when i was born here. Any advice would be grateful.

Registration is your best and cheapest option for acquiring British citizenship.

I just found out from the registry office that i cant even get married until i have a citizenship certificate to prove my nationality and being able to afford 631 for registration on jobseekers money is not looking likely before out chosen wedding date, i just wonder why i have to be registered first to get married when i was born here, went to school here, worked here, and can live here all my life not needing to register for any other purpose than a passport to leave the country for holidays

When you give notice to marry or register your civil partnership, you must bring evidence of your names, addresses, ages and nationality.

until you have registered, you are not British. Are you entitled to any other nationality?

well ive just found out from immigration themselves that if i send off my short birth certificate with my mothers letter confirming her ILR along with the passport forms i can get a british passport without registering which is all i need for registry office, so problem sorted hopefully, thanks for the advice anyway.

Did you explain to them that you were born before your mother had ILR? Because the advice is correct ony if you were born after.

we did give them the date along with DOB so i dont know why they would tell us we could do this if we cant, now im confused again as i dont want to waste time trying this is it will turn out to be wrong information

Who did you talk to? The HO or IPS?

i think it was IPS, i emailed them to confirm and they said that i might need to register first but to call tomorrow and they will be able to give further advice, my sister already planned to call them tomorrow anyway to see if this information was correct
