earning expectation question

Post by gulgon » Wed Jul 28, 2004 8:36 pm

In the HSMP form it asks how much do we expect to earn.
If I say £ 15.000-20.000, do u think that would be a problem? they would have any public fund concern in such a case?
anyone said such amount?

many thanks

I don't think so - £15k pa is hardly inline with Highly Skilled part of HSMP.

I'd say checking the kind of jobs that suit your profile is the best, but putting less than £25k might not help at all (average salary is around £20k here).

You might be right that 15-20.000 salary does not sound very highly skilled... but what can I do? the companies in the UK always offer such amounts at the beginning to non-technical foreigners even though they are highly skilled. technical foreigners such as IT guys might get a lot I know...

but my concern is if such an expected salary would prevent their approval, as far as I know there is no any criteria set about exp. salary in the HSMP leaflet...

Gulgon, there are some unwritten rule which one must learn by reading in between lines.

15K or 20 K salary is really really low level salary in UK....any one with undergradute degree from any university in UK can earn more than that amount, so think carefully before applying

the minimum wages in UK are around 5 Pounds per hour it means if a person working as bar tender or waiter works 10 hours a day for 22 days a month even he or she can earn around 15K salary per annum without any degree.

Sorry to disappoint u but it is the reality here.

to summarize it is my gutfeeling a person coming on HSMP should not mention the expected salalry less than 36,000 per annum. thats what is hsmp all about.

Raj thanks for your comments. Then I should better say smt between 20-30. However, I still would like to retain my expected salary not above this amount as it is really so difficult to be paid that amount in my field... Even if you are a consultant or manager, see the following ad :

Office Manager
Salary/Rate Up To 17k Per Annum
Employment Agency Manpower UK Ltd

And as I was in the UK, I have noticed in other cities than london £ 20.000 is really good money for many skilled people...

do not forget what u claim as ur expected salary should be inline with the addvertisement which u would be providing for job availability in UK

donot mention less than 30k in any case i.e. find some adds in ur fields which pays this much salary!!
