Tier 1 (General) Extension Success (Postal App) - Tips

Post by Mind_The_Gap » Sat Jun 02, 2012 1:12 pm

My timeline

1. Current vignette: Tier 1 (General)
2. Date of expiry of current leave (visa) : 01/05/2012
3. Number of applicants: 1
4. Date application posted: 28/03/2012
5. Date application received at UKBA: 29/03/2012 (Royal Mail Special Delivery)
6. Date payment debited: -
7. Payment mode: Bank Draft (Barclays)
8. Acknowledgement letter received: 19/04/2012 (Dated 16/05/2012)
9. Biometric letter received: 11/05/11 (Enclosed first class envelop)
10. Date of biometrics enrollment: 11/05/11 (Old Street Post Office)
11. Date Passport, Documents and letter of approval received: 30/05/2012 (Self addressed special delivery return envelop enclosed)
12. Date (new) leave to remain valid from: 30/05/2012 to 30/05/2014
13. Date BRP received: 02/06/2012

Tips

* Use Templates thanks to Chetanojha and separate them with tabs
Image
* Use Plastic jackets thanks to QuickSam
Image
* Include a self addressed special delivery return envelop
Image
* Bank Draft or Postal Order: There are many instances on this forum of Debit/Credit cards being lost by their owners or being rejected by banks due to the high amount (in spite of being instructed to allow a large payment to the UKBA earlier). If you are opting for a postal application spend a few pounds more, get yourself a bank draft/postal order and save yourself the stress.

* Enclose a photocopy of all the documents in a separate plastic jacket. Make life easier for your case-worker.

* Don't stress. Check processing timeline sticky thanks to Sushdmehta

Thank you again friends, seniors and moderators. I wish you all the very best!

Congrats MTG! Few questions-
1.)Did you try to book online for a premium service at a PEO first, or you outright went for a postal application?
2.)During the 2 months period when you posted your application and received your passport back, what was your work status- did your employer ask for any proof of your application to UKBA?
3.) You seem to have got 1 month free stay from the expiry of your first Tier1 to the beginning of your extension!:-)

Thanks Arnie365.

1.)Did you try to book online for a premium service at a PEO first, or you outright went for a postal application?
Went outright for the postal app, as I wanted a few days extra. Plus, the thought of staying awake till 12am clicking away on the UKBA website, isn't my idea of a good time.

2.)During the 2 months period when you posted your application and received your passport back, what was your work status- did your employer ask for any proof of your application to UKBA?
The HR department did ask if I had submitted the application for my extension. I responded that I had and also reminded them of Section 3C of the Immigration Act 1971

*It is often not possible to decide an application for an extension of leave until after the period of leave has expired. To prevent applicants from becoming overstayers through no fault of their own, section 118 of the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002 introduced an amended section 3C into the Immigration Act 1971. Section 3C automatically extends the leave of a person who has made an application for further leave to remain during a period of extant leave. Technically, the leave is "treated as continuing".

Also, kept them in the loop along the way. I emailed them copies of my postal receipt, acknowledgment letter and biometric invitation letter.

3.) You seem to have got 1 month free stay from the expiry of your first Tier1 to the beginning of your extension!
Indeed, the 1 month extra will be helpful towards the ILR 5 year residence requirement, as I entered the UK a month after my initial entry date.

Good luck with your app!

Congratulations MTG.

About payment details section of the application form what did you fill in as sort code and account number. Do you have to mention you personal sort code or account number or the bankers'?

Hi Tier1_aspirant123,

I used a bank draft. Consequently in questions A7 , A8 and A9, I provided the bank's account number, sort code and draft number.

At the bottom of the bank draft you will find:

Image

The first 6 digits is the draft number, it's in " In this case it's 456318
It is followed by a space and then the sort code. eg: 205422
The last 8 digits are account number. eg: 28020027

Hope this helps.
